Ghibli Museum Revisit

I've been to the Ghibli Museum several times since the last time I posted about it, and they've done some maintenance to the place, so I took some more pictures on my most recent Japan trip.

They now check your tickets against your ID outside before you enter the museum to combat ticket scalping, so don't forget to bring your passport.

They've trimmed some of the climbing plants and given the outside a fresh lick of paint.

Slightly bigger menu at the takeout window.

They've got a cart serving coffee outside now as well.

The café menu is seasonal, so it was different than last time I were here.

The café was open, but as always it was full, so I didn't try it this time either.

Outside the café there's also a sink where you can wash your hands with cat shaped spigots.

I also saw this Porco Rosso kayaributa mosquito repellent ceramic pig.

Since The Red Turtle was recently released in Japan, they had flyers for the movie here as well.

The bus stop sign in front of the museum.

Here's some art and information pamphlets I've bought about some of the exhibitions and short movies I've seen at the museum over the years (except for the Laputa and Cat Bus exhibits in the top right) plus a Ghibli Museum paper bag. The shorts I've seen so far are House Hunting, The Day I Bought a Star, Treasure Hunting, Mon Mon the Water Spider, The Whale Hunt, and Mei and the Baby Cat Bus.

Inside the movie pamphlets there's stills from the short movies as seen here for House Hunting, and Mei and the Baby Cat Bus.

The current exhibition All Aboard! The Cat Bus to the Ghibli Forest was a collection of items from the past exhibitions. Among the stuff they had on display was a short movie from the Laputa exhibit about imaginary flying machines and the cat bus from the Cat Bus exhibit which you could enter.

Stills from the imaginary flying machines short movie and pictures of the inside of the cat bus. Since they had these things on display I bought these older exhibition pamphlets.

I got more museum tickets as well, with frames from Ponyo, Arrietty, From Up on Poppy Hill and Only Yesterday amongst others.

And finally, here's an information flyer you get about the museum when you go there. Old version on top and the new version at the bottom.

No map since this is a famous tourist attraction.

This location was visited on 2016/10/05.

  1. I've only been once but would love to go back! Envy your multiple visits and getting to see all their films. Years ago someone was selling the Imaginary Flying Machines booklet for a stupid cost but now I regret picking it up as I can't find any images for it online other than what you've posted. Could you share any more from it? The one's I liked were those cross-sections Miyazaki likes to do.

    1. Hi there. They're still selling them at the museum, so if you ever go back you could get one!

    3. Hello! Lovely blog post. Do they scan your ticket or check your name off a list? I don't have a printer so would showing the ticket on the phone suffice? Cheers.. I can't contact ghibli to ask

    4. They usually scan your tickets. I've gotten Japanese tickets when I've been there though, which is printed at the Loppi machine at Lawson. Dunno how international tickets work.
