Akihabara Station

The area around Akihabara station has been featured in several anime series. Here's a few shots I took and some comparisons.

Image from Steins;Gate Episode 22 - 17m44s

If you go through the Electric Town exit gates and the head right you'll end up on this side of the train station.

This is where the Gundam and AKB48 cafés are.

And also the Akihabara Crossfield UDX building with the big Akihabara UDX vision screen.

If you head left instead of right after the Electric Town exit gates you'll find yourself here.

Here you'll find a bunch of anime, game and PC shops right away. There's even a Sega arcade just to the right of the shot.

Steins;Gate - Akihabara

Here's 6 more Steins;Gate locations I visited in Akihabara. 3 of them matches the anime, 2 have been changed and 1 wasn't really matching in the first place.

Image from Episode 1 - 10m31s

This is the former location of Radio Kaikan. The building was torn down in mid 2011 and they built a new building here which is scheduled to be opened later in 2014.

Image from Episode 1 - 20m18s

The Future Gadget Lab and CRT Workshop location. This is the location that never matched. The building in the anime seems to be a composite of several buildings in the area. There actually used to be a TV parts store here, but there's another store here now.

Image from Episode 7 - 19m22s

This is Hourin park. Most of this very small park has been changed since the anime was made, but the trees and the benches are still there.

Image from Episode 9 - 15m14s

Here's finally a location that still matches. This is the building where Faris lives. It's called Tokyo Times Tower in real-life.

Image from Episode 14 - 17m06s

The beef bowl eating place. I think this is still a beef bowl eating place in real-life, but it was not open yet when I went here an early morning.

Image from Episode 20 - 02m35s

And finally the coin lockers where the IBN 5100 was hidden.

Steins;Gate - Maid Café

The maid café May Queen Nyan-Nyan in Steins;Gate actually exists in real life and it's called Café Mai:lish. I actually knew about this place before I saw Steins;Gate because it's the maid café that the Haruhi Suzumiya ASOS Brigade visits in Episode 10! This video can be found in the Haruhi Suzumiya Vol. 4 US DVD extras.

Image from Episode 2 - 16m33s

The café is upstairs on the second floor.

Closeup of the sign.

This Steins;Gate poster was hanging outside the café so I took a picture of it. ^_^

Image from Episode 2 - 19m26s

Since I was already there I went in and got an omuraisu meal. To my surprise they decorated it like in Steins;Gate!

Like in most maid cafés you can't take pictures of anything else than the food. It does look the same as in the anime inside though, and they had a copy of this poster hanging on one of the walls.

Oreimo - Shibuya

In season 1 of Oreimo, Kirino and Kyosuke visits Shibuya in one episode. I was going here anyway to check out the tourist attractions and some of the pictures matched, so here they are.

Image from S1E7 - 16m36s

This is Shibuya Station.

Image from S1E7 - 16m39s

The Hachikō statue. If you've played the game The World Ends with You this should be recognizable since that's also set in Shibuya.

Image from S1E7 - 17m48s

Shibuya 109. Just one of several famous shopping malls in the area.

Image from S1E7 - 17m37s

The Shibuya crossing in front of Shibuya station. Known from several movies such as Lost in Translation and TV shows where they visit Japan.

No map since these are famous tourist attractions.

Oreimo - Odaiba

In addition to the few times the characters in Oreimo visits Tokyo Big Sight for Comiket, there's also an episode in season 2 where they show some other famous places in Odaiba. I was already there so I decided to get some pictures of these places too.

Image from S2E10 - 07m32s

This is the Daikanransha ferris wheel.

During the night it lights up in various changing patterns.

Image from S2E10 - 07m36s

The back of Zepp Tokyo. Both this and the Daikanransha ferris wheel are a part of the Palette Town shopping complex.

Image from S2E10 - 07m38s

Guess this is where performers like ClariS enter the building. ^_^

And this is the front entrance where the audience enters.

The Rainbow Bridge between the rest of Tokyo and Odaiba. As you can see it lights up at night. You can also see Tokyo Tower in the background in my picture.
