Puella Magi Madoka Magica - Milan Cathedral

In the Puella Magi Madoka Magica movies the roof of the Mitakihara Middle School is based on the Milan Cathedral roof.

The roof of the cathedral. Unfortunately there were renovations going on when I visited, but you can see the spires and the structure in the middle of the shot that matches.

Closer look from the third movie.

In the movies they have the structure in the middle on both ends on the roof, but there's just one in real life. This is the actual view in the opposite direction.

It wasn't shown in the movies, but here's a look at the front of the cathedral as well.

No map since this is a famous tourist attraction.

Hidamari Sketch - Tanashi Station

In episode 1 of Hidamari Sketch x 365 we see Yuno and her mother running to try to catch a train near what seems to be Tanashi Station.

This is the taxi stand near the north exit of Tanashi Station.

None of the other places they run past seems to match though.

But this train crossing right next to the station seems to be slightly similar at least.

Hidamari Sketch - Musashi-Yamato Station

In the first OVA of Hidamari Sketch x Hoshimittsu, also sometimes referred to as episode 13, we see Natsume at a train station that's based on Musashi-Yamato Station in real life.

Stairs up to the station building.

The outsides of the station doesn't match any more since it was modified at the end of 2010.

Inside it's still recognizable though.

Across the street from the station there's also a bicycle parking lot that's shown in the anime.

The bicycle racks are the same.

Madogatari Exhibition

During my trip to Tokyo I finally managed to catch the Madogatari exhibition during the Tokyo Encore.

Managed to get tickets in the evening for the first day. There were still a short queue to get in.

Information board about the exhibits at the event space. Madogatari was on the third floor.

At the top of the stairs up to the third floor was this screen playing an pixel art information video about the exhibition.

Queue on the third floor to get in. You can see another one of the information video screens on the left.

Reverse angle. Big cloth posters in the back.

Closeups of all the big cloth posters.

On the left are 2 illustrations that they had printed on bromide cards. They handed out a random one to each visitor.

No pictures were allowed in the exhibition area itself, but after walking through that you could take pictures of these congratulatory flower arrangements.

Here they also had an area with various goods that were not for sale.

Lawson goods.

Bag and hand towels.

Prize figures.

Lottery prizes.

T-shirts and clear files.

Headphones.

And phone covers.

They had one of these big cloth posters here as well.

Goods that were for sale in the exhibition shop.

A lot of goods were already sold out.

I also went there again in the morning the next day.

There were a much bigger queue.

They had set up an extra queue area in the back as well.

They didn't have much decorations outside, but I did see this poster.

Goods I got. In the upper left there's a bag they gave out free to people who bought a lot of goods. Next to it is a regular shopping bag and a sheet for voting for your favourite character. In the bottom from left to right are the exhibition book and the Blu-Ray that came with it, a pin button set, the exhibition ticket, the random bromide I got, an exhibition pamphlet and an information flyer.

Some pictures of the Monogatari area of the exhibition from the exhibition book. In this area they also had a giant storybook with a video that showed what the Monogatari girls would be like as magical girls narrated by Kyubey called Monoga Modoka.

Madoka witch area.

Monogatari keyframes.

Platinum Disco.

Homura's despair from Madoka Magica.

Keyframes from the new Madoka concept movie shown at the exhibition.

More keyframes and some storyboards.

Even though the exhibition focused on Monogatari and Madoka, they also had art from most other Shaft shows on display as well. Character art from Twelve Warrior Explosive Eto Rangers, the first show produced by Shaft.

A show from back when they still used cels.

Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase

Pani Poni Dash!

Hidamari Sketch

They had the keyframes for this whole running sequence displayed. They also had keyframes of a Madoka running sequence from Madoka Magica and one of Tsubasa running from Monogatari.

Kino's Journey: Country of Illness -For You-

ef

And Yet the Town Moves

Nisekoi

And finally Gourmet Girl Graffiti. Shaft head tilt on the left ^_^

More Monogatari keyframes from the exhibition pamphlet.

And Madoka Magica ones.

In this pamphlet there were also pictures of these shikishi boards.

No location map since it's no longer there.
