At the south end of Tanegashima there's Cape Kadokura that's also shown in Robotics;Notes.

The greenery seems to be different here, and there's no light pole on the right.

Image from Episode 16 - 19m44s

View from the cape. This view is towards east in real life, so there's no sunset here like in the anime.

Lots of sharp rocks down in the ocean at the cape.

Kai is also seen at the cape in the next episode.

Robotics Notes - Tanegashima Space Center Tour

While at Tanegashima Space Center, I also took the free tour they offered since you get to see some more locations seen in Robotics;Notes.

Tour bus. There's tours 3 times a day.

I got into the 13:30 tour. It's best to call ahead to reserve a seat. I originally wanted to take the tour on the day before, but all the tours were full then.

Image from Episode 12 - 03m30s

The first stop on the tour is the Rocket Garage. This is where they make GunBuild-2 in the anime. I've marked the location of this building in the map below since you can get a picture of the outsides even if you don't get into the tour.

The Robot Research Club inside the building.

Image from Episode 12 - 04m02s

The overhead cranes here are the same.

They have the H-II number 7 rocket on display here, so no free space for building robots in real life.

Insides of the second stage of the rocket.

LE-7 rocket engine.

Image from Episode 20 - 16m09s

On the way to the next stop I got this picture of the launch control room building.

Image from Episode 22 - 00m37s

This is launch pad 1 at the Yoshinobu launch complex, the second stop of the tour.

Reverse view towards the vehicle assembly building.

Image from Episode 22 - 11m08s

You're not allowed to get out of the bus here, but you can open the windows and get pictures.

Image from Episode 20 - 20m21s

The last stop was the range control center. It's not shown in the anime, but it looks slightly similar to the launch control room which you couldn't visit.

I also checked out the cafeteria while here.

I got the katsudon fried pork cutlet bowl.

And I visited the space center museum too.

Lots of stuff on display including rocket models.

A satellite.

And an international space station model.

They also had a Space Brothers cardboard cutout.

And a signed Galaxy Express 999 framed poster.

Lots of space food in the museum shop.

Image from Episode 21 - 18m21s

No space candy though. The closest thing I could find were these lollipops.

I bought some rocket pens as a souvenir. You can also see the English handouts for the bus tour and the bag from the museum shop in this picture.
