Your Name - Lake

Makoto Shinkai has said that his inspiration for Lake Itomori was Lake Matsubara and Lake Otsuki, so I went and checked them out.

I first checked out Lake Matsubara.

It's much smaller than Lake Itomori in the movie.

Closer look at the lake.

This is Lake Otsuki. It's just a few minutes walk away from Lake Matsubara.

Lake Otsuki is even smaller than Lake Matsubara.

There's also a small shrine with a torii gate on top of the hill, but like a lot of other places it doesn't look anything like the one in the movie.

This is the closest train station which is named Matsubarako Station.

It's quite far away from the lake itself though, so you have to either walk uphill for half an hour or try to catch a bus. As this sign shows the bus stop isn't located at the station though.

So you'd need to walk up the path on the left here to catch the infrequent bus.

The trains are also quite infrequent as you can see from the timetable on the right.

At the train station they had guestbooks.

Mostly seemed to be for people enjoying the nature and lakes.

Some anime drawings though.

I signed the guestbook.
